Hello friends. In Turkish high schools we usually make 4 exams a term. The teacher makes 3 exams individually, for one exam we come together, prepare and give the same exam to all students in the same grade (all 9th grades in the school for example)
What is this kind of exam called?

We call it a Diagnostic Exam - in order to check the level of our pupils. |

Hi
If we give the same test to all the students at the beginning of the school year, we call it a diagnostic test, as Barbara has just said, or placement test, if we can put students into different levels and classes. If we give the test at the end of the school year we call it an assessment test.

Its a ministerial regulation to provide coordination of the teachers who are following the same syllabus. In addition you can compare your students and teaching with the others. |

In our school, which is an Anatolian High School, not only the English but also all other exams are done common, not individually, i.e. not on the class base; so we call these exams � common exam �.
