Libertybelle, you missed my point. You are talking about the verb "to forfeit", but the original question, and the first few answers, were dealing with "a forfeit", which is a pre-arranged "payment" for losing a game, and usually something minor, and maybe even humorous or mildly embarrassing. In Strip Poker, for each hand you lose, you pay a forfeit of one piece of clothing. I certainly agree that we use the verb "forfeit", meaning to give up the rights to something, regularly.
