ANIMAL LETTERS VOTED TO BE REMOVED FROM THE SITE

I am reopening this thread http://www.eslprintables.com/forum/search.asp?query=animal+letters&username=&fromday=0&frommonth=0&fromyear=0&today=0&tomonth=0&toyear=0&B4=Search

because I was looking for an alphabet activity and Ive found this one, made by Catiahenriques using the animal letters that Ive uploaded.

http://www.eslprintables.com/printable.asp?id=456087#thetop

In 2009 my animal letters were voted to be removed from the site because of the following reasons:

-          Each letter was sent individually (I didnt have technical knowledge to compress the size, however,  I still see letters being sent individually)

-          There was no additional work (I wrote under each letter, the name of the animal and an article, for instance, An armadillo, A bee. Catiahenriques uploaded her activity just as Alphabet- how to pronouce it( pronounce) )

-          Copy / paste without mentioning the website (The website was mentioned in each of my letters. Catiahenriques didnt mention the website either.)

After a few suggestions on how to compress the size of the letters, a variation of some of them were uploaded in sets of 4, but even though, they were voted to be removed ( thank you again Allien boy for your comments on my behalf.)

At the end, many of our friends downloaded my work and I was left with a negative balance that leaded me to avoid uploading new activities for a long time. (Catiahenriques got 205 points for her activity!!)

I would appreciate any comments regarding this subject, especially the ones coming from the moderators and from Victor who I have contacted recently to ask about my negative balance before uploading a new activity and so far I havent heard from him.

PS: I have already prepared some other activities using these letters and Id like a solution to the problem before I upload them.

Thank you very much.

I believe the rule number 1 aplied to the ABC flashcard collection: "Your contributions must be your own creations."
Since the pictures were not your own creation, they were removed.
Basically, Victor wants to discourage people from uploading pictures (from internet) and call it "an original work". Well, it is not an original work. It is a copy-pasted picture(s) drawn by someone else...
Moderators just want to "persuade" the contributors to resize the pictures and to share as much as possible in one file. We need the server space for original work, not copied pics... And whats more, it is inconvenient to be forced to download a series of 10-20 worksheets...
The uploader should state the source of the pictures, so all the downloaders can find the non-resized "big" pictures on the internet (if needed)... Resizing is explained in several free tutorials in our tutorial section...

I guess Catia s poster wasn t removed because it consisted of a complete collection in a single file (all letters in one file) and the design of the poster was clearly made by her.
It seems to me that the moderators are not so strict when the contributor shares "all-in-one" and clearly adds some sort of work of hers/his... I know it seems unfair, she just copied 26 pictures, and added phonetic pronunciation of 26 letters. But it is a complete work in a single document...

Your contributions must be your own creations.
You can use free images from cliparts or other free sources. You can also use images that you have subscribed to and paid for.
Please, don t use pictures taken from other ESL websites or books, even if you add your own exercises.
Single flashcards (a document with a single picture) are not allowed. There must be at least four flashcards in the same document for it to be considered a flashcard set and be accepted. In the past we had many flashcards uploaded separately, and they will not be removed, but it is not allowed anymore.

Here you can see that many people have contributed ABC (drawn by somebody else), but it seems that the "all-in-one" contributions are preferred.

Thank you very much for you reply and the cute alphabet links.

According to Victor "A single flashcard would not be acceptable, but a set of flashcards (in a single document or a series of documents) would be OK."

(that is what he wrote in my original thread.)

At that time, I sent a serie of documents with 1 letter in each,  I designed 1 frame for each of them, I wrote the animal s name and an article. later on, I sent 1 document with 4 letters in each  and they were also voted to be removed.

Knowing that, don t you consider that I put work on my flashcards? It seemed that I followed everything that you wrote in your post.

I agree with you it seems unfair, she just copied 26 pictures, and added phonetic pronunciation of 26 letters" and got 205 points and I lost my points and wasted my time.

My intention is not so much to complain about catiahenrique s work, but to show people that the rules are not applied to everyone (that is how I feel).

I remember when your work was voted to be removed from the site. I don t think  it is fair that a lot of people downloaded it and now somebody put together the letters in one file and got the points that you deseved.
I think you should get Victor involved on it if you don t get a reasonable answer from the moderators that voted for your work to be removed from the website.
