Hi everyone!!
I am stuck with an assignment. I have been searching online for long but came up with nothing. It is about ESL test item discrimination. For which language areas is it used? and what are the advantages and disadvantages? |

Dear Sahumah!
I can only speak about Portuguese syllabus when it comes to teaching English as a foreign language.
In my country we teach many topics related to our society. I can name a few, such as: Discrimination, obesity, anorexia, human rights.... and so on.
Each topic is careful planned according to the students age, maturity and level of English skills. Language/grammatical strucutres are taught according to the text, video, song chosen for each teacher. Let say, some are suitable to approach certain areas than others.
Discrimination is per si a polemic issue. So Portuguese teachers should promote debate among teens, bearing in mind their cultural, social, religious and economic background, making sure that their own opinions are completely respected.
