Thank you Sophia I hope I m not drawing anybody into an argument or talking about an irrelevant subject. Our assembly are about to make a decision. It is good to learn what the others do.
Thanks a lot |

In Turkey it is cumpolsory and the government wants to change to whole education system now in order to make it more in a week. So, the English lessons will be less in Primary schools and we will start teaching English at the age of eleven. It is too late. So as English teachers most of us complain about the case. |

In the USA, only private or parochial schools can teach religion. High schools can teach comparative religion or the Bible as literature, but that s about it. Our schools can t even legally sponsor prayers. Admittedly, this strict interpretation of division between church and state has come about only in the past 50 years or so. Some public schools do still have religious teaching, but these are usually small schools in small towns or rural areas that are fairly homogeneous. In larger schools, lawsuits usually force schools to stop religious teaching.
This is still controversial, as many conservative Christians want to re-introduce Christian teachings to schools. I am completely against that. We have a significant Jewish population, as well as just about every religion and anti-religion known to humanity here. If you don t teach them all and allow prayers from them all, then don t teach any! |
