Looking for the right expression in English

Hi friends from all over the world!

In Portuguese when someone is always alone, probably because he/she has no friends, we can say that he/she looks like an abandoned dog. Its something negative to say about someone else. Is there a similar expression in English?

Thanks in advance!

Cristina

Johnny no-mates is one. He even has his own meme (the Forever Alone guy):

Billy No Mates used to be used, haven t heard it for a while, though.

We often say :"He s  a loner" which can be taken as derogatory, but not necessarily.

"Outcast" is also another option that is more negative.

Abandoned dogs-we usually refer to as "strays" or "stray dogs".

We definitely use the slang Billy No-Mates which is often just abbreviated to Billy .

I agree with Douglas overall.  "He s a lone wolf" it is taken to mean that he chooses to be alone and is a little rebellious towards society, but isn t necessarily disrespected, just outside the mainstream.
