I am trying to think of singular nouns that end in S although they are not plural: lyrics, charts, outdoors, customs (Dover), bias, lens, blues, in-laws, origins, politics, baker�s, butcher�s, classes (=education), holidays, draughts, Maths, Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, linguistics, ethics, atletics, gymnastics, accoustics, stylistics, tactics, optics, electronics, robotics, dynamics, perks, wages, earnings, series, species, spices + herbs, suburbs,  dominoes, billiards, darts, stairs (1 staircase), corps (group), measels, mumps (illness), pancreas, alias, jackanapes, 
(Greek/Latin): rhinoceros, ethos, cosmos, crisis, radius, fungus, , diabetes, axis (plural=axes), basis, crisis, oasis, analysis, thesis, emphasis, cactus, nucleus, stimulus, terminus, focus, bacillus, corpus (plural: corpora), rendezvous, 

Nouns - always plural - NO singular noun - (+aggregate nouns):

congratulations, contents, thanks, goods, news, species, barracks, crossroads, headquarters, gallows, ancestors, forebears, descendants, mews, guts, outskirts
a pair of: trousers, jeans, knickers, pyjamas, headphones, scissors, shears, tongs, compasses, binoculars, tweezers, scales, (slippers, gloves, ear-rings)

Plural nouns which are rarely singular or there is a change in meaning:
jeans (x Jean), pants (x pant), shorts (x short (adj.), trunks (x trunk), tights (x tight), origins (origin), highlights (x highlight), characteristics (x characteristic), clothes (x cloth), glasses (x glass), means (x mean), arms (x arm), quarters (x quarter), customs (x custom), spectacles x (spectacle), goods (x good), times (x time), works (x work), woods (x wood), dues (x due), deserts (x desert), premises (x premise), ass (x as), shambles (x shamble), mews (x to mew), ...?

I am trying to find nouns always ending in -s  or there is a change in meaning when the -s is omitted...  I would like to make a large poster on tricky nouns... Any help around? Wink

Thank you Jayho, I had read the sites and incorporated all suitable words in my list yesterday.
I used only some of the words suggested in those two websites.
I was looking for words that end in -s and the "singular" looks quite right, "probable", although if we omit -s, the word doesn�t make sense. I dare say, most students wouldn�t be baffled by the address, boss, access, bus, gas,  and wouldn�t think those words are plurals and wouldn�t form a singular such as: addres, bos, bu, ga... :-D 
I mean, I had already picked all the tricky ones (IMHO) alghough I didn�t use all words mentioned in those websites...
It seems to me that "my list" looks pretty complete now. Thank you  very much for your help! anaisabel001 and ascincoquinas Heart Hug
