Dear Colleagues,

When he has finished his studies he decided to become an artist.

When he had finished his studies he decided to become an artist.

Is there  a difference between these sentences?

Thanks

The first one is incorrect bc the main clause has the verb in past simple, so in the subordinate clause the verb (which indicates the action prior to the one in the main clause) should be in past perfect not in present perfect.
