The Chinese have invented printing.
a.the  b.Chinese  c.have   d.printing

If it had just happened recently, the sentence would be fine. However, it happened a few years ago, so "have" is wrong. This is a simple past situation, so it should be "The Chinese invented printing".

In my humble opinion,  "c) have" is nonsense there. The sentence speaks about the past event - a long time ago (not mentioned here) happened this - printing was invented in China. And who invented it? The Chinese.
And as Bruce said (he answered few seconds earlier Wink) only past tense makes sense here.
