Help with every day language

Hi,

A student of mine is going to England next month. I am trying to help her with the language she may need to use.
I have a couple of doubts:

- is it still used "silver" and "copper"  when exchanging money? I mean, is she likely to hear that?

- do you still have to register with the police when entering into the UK?

Any help of any kind will be of much value

Hi.

Native speakers sometimes still say silver and copper for coins.

However, just "coins" or "change" for the coins returned to you in a shop is fine.

As for registering with the police, perhaps you mean immigration?

If your friend has a visa (if one is needed) then there should be no need to register separately with the police. I have never heard of anyone doing that.

:)
