What film?

Can  anybody solve this idea?

HIS LASTEST FILM ISN T AS GOOD AS THE LAST I SAW.

Is the lastest film the last I saw? if so, I am comparing a film with itself.
If the last film I saw is different from his lastest one, It means I didn t see his lastest  so How can I compare them!

I don t get the exact idea! please help me!!!!

I did see his latest film, but the last film I saw wasn t his and I saw it later than his latest film. It s latest compared with his other fims.

"The last I saw" here is implying "the last before this one". It is very common usage.

Just so you know: There s no such word as LASTEST.

It s either his latest or his last.

So your sentence should say:

HIS LATEST FILM ISNT AS GOOD AS THE LAST (one) I SAW.

The last one you saw could be any of the others he s made,  EXCEPT that latest one
which is the newest film he has made.

Hope this helps.

His latest film isn t as good as the last (the previous film of his that I watched) film I saw.

Last = the last film of his you saw, not necessarily the last film he made.
