The Romans

Dear Teachers,

Please, I m preparing some games in English related to The Roman Empire as we are having a day dedicated to this topic. I have been searching everywhere, found great sites, learnt a lot but I m stuck. Could you  help me? Can you think of any starters or warm up games to tackle the topic? The age of the pupils goes from 11 until 15.

Thanks a million!!

Have you all a great weekend!

Eva

Why not start with a map and revise the names of countries where the Romans settled? You could use a cork board or mark them on a powerpoint. Use the names of Roman colonies as your team names for the games.
You could use some of the ideas from the comic strip (or DVD) of Asterix in Britain....
Gladiators could be condemned to death with a hand sign...make up a hand sign game along the same lines as rock, paper, scissors....
They were great builders...use a diagram of a Roman monument such as The Pont du Gard (theres a picture of it on every 5euro note)  and write up new vocabulary on the spaces for each stone building block..

I think  would have startet with a short film and there are plenty of them on youtube. There are some films on Romulus and Remus. And I suppose you have found this page: http://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/primaryhistory/romans/city_of_rome/teachers_resources.shtml
