My knowledgeable friends I need to pick your brains again. What is the most natural way of saying that I have used all the pages in a notebook and I need a new one? Something tells me that a phrasal verb may be used :) What about the sentence: I have written out the notebook? Does it make sense?

You re actually very close. I d say, "I used up this notebook; I need a new one." In English, "written out" means that you put something in writing rather than just saying it out loud. Example: "I had written out a list of what I wanted to buy at the supermarket, but I forgot to bring it with me." (Yes, you can use write out in any tense.)

You could also say "I have filled up this notebook".
