Teaching the Police.

Hi All,

Help help help.  I have been asked to teach a class of 40 police officers basic English communication, I have a few ideas but I normally teach 12-16 years old and wondered if anyone out there has run a course aimed at police ,  I was thinking of doing greetings, descriptions , directions , question words, giving advise. but can anyone else think of any good ideas that may help me?

They want a 30 hour course for officers wanting to join the tourist police.

Any advise or suggestions would be great.

Thanks in advance.
Regards
Dameon

Hello!

You could teach survival English, that s to say, basic communication skills. I guess you have a pretty good idea of what to teach.

I have never taught students who were policemen, but I think the ideal thing would be to provide them with tools so taht they can communicate out there in the streets. Myabe you could teach them some basic vocabulary related to their career, procedures or legal stuff at an elementary level.

Well, I hope you do great with this course! take care!

Regards,

Emilce

Hi:

I had the same course here in Colombia. Basically you deal with a very short time and they have several other subjects to attend to so you must be practical. Plus the classes are large (50 students)

You teach basics and I oriented the course to personal information, filling forms, giving directions, some imperatives and present simple.

I hope this helps you.
