till vs checkout

Hi there, I have a question, what s the difference between till and checkout? Is till the machine where the money is put and checkout the whole area where you have the counter, cashier and conveyor belt?

Thanks

I think that the till is in England and the checkout is in USA. Although I would probably use the checkout at a supermarket these days.

As a former supermarket cashier, I used till to refer to the money drawer. Checkout refers to the whole area: the conveyor belt, the cash register, and the bagging area.
