Douglas is correct, although I think we are a little more likely to say "fellow countryman". As Linda is pointing out, it could have other equivalents if you don �t mean "a person from the same country as you".

Depending on context, I guess it could also be translated to "buddy" too.

Hi guys,

In Spain, we often use �paisano � for that guy or that fellow.

Example: Conozco un paisano que tiene una casa en Marbella - I know a guy that has a house in Marbella.

Actually, it could even be dude, dude! LOL

Paisano is used more than you might think in Spain; however its usage has become very colloquial over the years.
