Dear Spanish teachers

I m a teacher of English but a student of Spanish:)
Noone can make it clear to me what is the difference between adonde/donde, afuerte/fuerte, dentro/adentro.
Is there any? Seems to be if there are two expressions for seemingly the same thing

Thanks in advance

Karolina

Karolina, first of all it is very important that you understand that *adonde and *afuerte DO NOT EXIST in Spanish, "donde" means "where" and "A donde" means "where to", fuerte means strong and dentro means "inside", "adentro" is almost the same though it is very colloquial and should never be used in writing!!

Regards!!

Hola Karolina !
"afuerte" doesn t exist , it s only "fuerte"
"dentro" y "adentro" are the same
"dnde" y "a dnde" is a little more complicated, you say "dnde est el nio" but " a dnde se fue el nio", it s like "a dnde" is used with dynamic verbs (implying that X went from point A to point B) and "dnde" with stative ones.
"Dnde queda la casa?", "Dnde vive Juan"? but "A dnde viajan maana?" " A dnde van el fin de semana?" .... In case you worry you are not using it correctly ... don t ! Many many Spanish speakers use this the wrong way !
Hope it helps!

Las formas adonde y a donde suelen aparecer con verbos de direccin (ir, venir, dirigirse...) en estos casos alternan con donde.

Sin embargo, con verbos que no indican direccin, solo se utiliza donde.

El pueblo adonde voy de vacaciones es muy tranquilo.
La casa donde nac ahora est en ruinas.

adentro. adv. 1. Hacia lo interior o en lo interior. Suele posponerse a sustantivos (mar adentro). Incorrecto: Corrieron a adentro. Correcto: Corrieron adentro.

dentro. adv. 1. En la parte interior. Con las preposiciones de, desde, hacia, para, por, forma locuciones adverbiales. dentro de. loc. prepos. (Est dentro de la casa). de dentro. loc. adv. ant. por de adentro (salir de dentro). Con la preposicin a (a + dentro), debe escribirse en una sola palabra: adentro.

"afuerte" doesnt exist. Did you mean "afuera"?
