Channels

Hey guys, look at this sentence:

Put on channel 5, I want to watch the game. (imagine that the TV is turned off)

It s not the idea of changing the channel.

What are other synonyms for put?

That may be British. In the US, we would say "Turn on channel 5", or "Turn the television on to channel 5".

You would probably say Put the telly on. Put it on channel 5. But, just, Put channel 5 on is OK. We also use turn switch and of course pop . Pop the telly on. We can use pop with a lot of activities.

The Canadian version is identical to the U.S. Turn on channel 5 or Turn it (the TV) to channel 5.
