Good afternoon dear teachers!
Can you help me in these questions?
1.In Brazil theres a public department which is responsible for preserving and protencting the environment and animals the name is IBAMA. Is there any similar one in English?
2. I was reading a text and the guy said:"I like to make people laugh when I am off" . what this expression in red means?
Thank you very much.
Have a nice afternoon! |

In the USA, we have the EPA: Environmental Protection Agency, which is responsible for trying to protect the environment, and the ESPP: Endangered Species Protection Program, part of the EPA, works to promote the recovery of endangered species in the USA. The US Fish and Wildlife Service also helps to protect endangered species while reducing the numbers of non-native invasive species in the wild.
The expression "to be off" has two meanings in English, one fairly standard and the other slang. The standard meaning, which you are familiar with, is "to be not at work." The slang meaning, which is the one I think is used in your text is "to be odd or strange, not normal." I think what the guy means is that he likes to make people laugh when he makes observations that most people would think are weird. |
