In British English, only the second one is correct.  There is a carrot inside it   Geek

Both are correct, but they have slightly different meaning.  There is a carrot would imply that there is a single whole carrot (though it could be mashed up) but it would be a single carrot. Saying there is carrot inside implies that a number of carrots have been mashed up and put inside.
 
If you were to say there are carrots (plural) inside then the first definition would apply, the inference being that the carrots were still whole.
 
I think this is correct!!!!!!
