How to work with Reading

Hi there,
I have a question:
Is it recommendable to play the audio when my 8 year-old students are reading for the first time? I usually pre-teach the core vocabulary (and also make predictions) and then let my students read silently individually and then play the audio in order to "read" again (intonation rithym, pause, etc.). I think that if I play the audio first it would be listening and not reading.
Please, I need to be sure that what I m doing is right. I d be grateful if you could recommend me some books or links in order to learn more about that.
Blessings and thanks for your help
