"Expression"

Hey guys,

There is an expression in portuguese that it seems not to make any sentence in english.

Here when many people are fired at the same time in a company we say that "a ship passed".

The idea is that the ship passed and took all these people with it.

Is there any expression in English for this idea?

Thank you very much.

A clean sweep.   But this is used in other contexts as well.

As in, The boss sacked them all; he made a clean sweep of it.

Hi Mari! That Portuguese brazilian expression is not used here in Portugal. The expression Lynnn suggested you is commonly used by both the police and criminals - among us here in Europe - when a group of people "get rid " of something or someone who disturbs the mainstream, as far as organised crime is concern. NOT PLEASANT; in my personal opinion... but who am I to discuss with this violent world!!!
