Doubt about an expression

Hello everybody, a student asked me about an expression but I m not sure about the meaning.
The person he was talking to used "I wanna fly" and said she had lost a close friend. Does it mean the same as run away to be alone?
Thanks!

I agree with your assessment. I want to fly in the context of losing someone, could mean I want to leave quickly to be alone.

But in a more positive context, it can also mean I want to excel at something . Fly as In soaring... doing well at something.
