 You should �ve really googled that, but here: 
 The chicken or the egg causality dilemma is commonly stated as "which came first, the chicken or the egg?" To ancient philosophers, the question about the first chicken or egg also evoked the questions of how life and the universe in general began. (WIKIPEDIA) 
 By chicken-and-egg question, is meant a dilemma that is hard to sovle, cause it is impossible to determine which of the two elements of something (in any filed) is prior and more important.
