Hi everyone
could please tell me if "unless" can be followed with a negative verb!
as in; unless you don t work hard, I will buy you a bike.

In general Unless can be replaced by If not .  Translating your example: If not you don t work hard .....  sounds silly, not?  As double negatives are usually avoided, you d better not use it, unless you want to sound silly, which we all do at times. Meaning we do use the double negatives on purpose at times, i.e. I don t know nothing about this issue. Hope this helps. Cheers. Peter
