Dear All, I need help from JAPANESE NATIVE SPEAKING colleagues. I am very much a fun of Pecha Kucha presentations and will be hosting a Pecha Kucha event soon. I have a question regarding the famous controversy: how do you pronounce the term? Is it /ˌpetʃə ˈkʊtʃə/ or do we pronounce it with emphasis on the second syllable as in pe-chach-ka?
Your help will be appreciated.
Thank you, Margarita |

Here you are:
Japanese is a tonal language, not inflectional, so the emphasis is quite different to English.
The character lengths/phonemic components are all the same length in spoken Japanese, & its written like this (but with no spaces between the character groups):
ぺ ちゃ く ちゃ
pe cha ku cha pɛ tʃɑ ku tʃɑ
pɛ - slightly higher pitched than tʃɑ ku tʃɑ
Its an onomatopoeia for chit chat .
I hope thats helped a little!
Cheers, AB
