Xanthippe is a slang term used in Piers Anthony s books to refer to dryads.

Xanth: his fantasy world inhabited by humans and magical creatures
hippie: slang for a person who believes that modern culture and mores are unnatural and that people should do be more hedonistic

Since hippies are often called "tree-huggers," and dryads live in trees, the connection is solid if not completely obvious. However, language is full of analogy and metaphor.

Xanthippe is slang for the "scantily clad hippie" of the sixties, as opposed to the "hipster" hippies of today. Today s hipsters usually use it in a demeaning way. I am not a xathippe, don t you see, I wear the latest brands and uploaded my outfit to instagram before you did!
