Hi Pretty.
Tips for studying.

You should persevere.
You should be persistent.

I ve honestly never heard it, but I ve googled it and it exists, so I guess be perseverant is acceptable.

Your sentence for perseverant is fine. It is extremely formal English though and not many people will have even heard of the word before. Id suggest telling your student that.

"Keep at it" and "stick to it" are the colloquial ways of expressing perseverant.

Which student book is perseverant from?

I have never heard it either.  It is definitely not common usage although perseverance is.

If you go to http://www.collinsdictionary.com/dictionary/english/perseverant you can see a graph of usage for the last 300 years for both American and British English.

It is now in my vocab though now.  I shall be perseverant in committing it to my word bank.

Cheers

I have searched the word in the student s book again. I thought there was the adjective perseverant!
Then I found only the noun : perseverance is it in the book.

Thanks

Hi, I m not native but the word "perseverant " sounded fine to me till I ve read all your wise comments. So I m just wondering if "persevering" is more usual than perseverant . Thanks in advance . Flori
