produce / manufacture a painting?

Hi, everyone. I was wondering which of these two verbs (manufacture or produce) collocate with painting. I know that manufacture is related to machines, but I m not convinced whether produce is the correct alternative (the key of the book says so, but I m not sure if it s right or it s a mistake). It s in the USE OF ENGLISH of one of First Certificate books.
Thanks in advance,
Paola

"manufacture" means produce (often hand-made products) in big quantities
"to produce a painting" means to create a work of art
