I have a doubt

Could anybody tell me the difference between these words concerning hair?

PIGTAILS, BRAIDS and PLAITS

Thanks in advance.

Basically pigtails are divided into two (normally same size) and can be braided or hang free. So pigtails, when braided, are also braids. Unbraided, they can also be called ponytails. Ponytais can be a single or more ponytails, braids can be a single or more braids, pigtails are a pair of one or the other (though for me personally I see pigtails as always being braided).

Plaits and braids are the same ( I get the impression "plait" is more British English)

Cheers,
Douglas
