My dear teachers!
Would you please be so kind and tell me the names of books you use in your school for English classes?
Especially for learners from age 8-11.
All answers are welcome. I am interested in every country (from Kongo to Finland ;-) )
Thank you!!!
Kind regards! |

Hi there from Poland In here primary school is sort of informally divided into two stages: class 1 to 3 (kids from the age of 7 to 9) and the second stage class 4 to 6 (kids aged 10-12). For the first stage it is assumed that the children have no comprehension of grammar as a system yet so they learn it in chunks / sentences /phrases, and focus on skills, vocabulary and TPR. In the second stage, the methodology changes, grammar is taught. So in the first stage for example my children were taught from Footprints series or KidsBox series. My colleagues also teach from Bugs (quite easy), Superminds series (fairly challenging). For the second stage my children at state school which they attended they followed the cousebook series called Steps in English (which was OK in my view). In the language school where I m a DOS we teach from My Space series by CUP which I find satisfactory, but not perfect (doesn t have supplementaries or a dvd accompaning it). We used to do Oxford Heroes which was not bad either (with the above reservations) and Sky High (nice supplementaries, though a bit repetitive content). Earlier there was Flashlight series for bit weaker students but it s out of print now. Hope that helps, best joanna |

Hi! I work with 5-8 year old newcomers to country and language. I make my own curriculum. First I start with developing basic survival vocabulary, going by topics /like Greeting, Family, Home, Animals/ and use variety of sites to make my lessons, tailoring them for the needs of every kid. This site had useful links http://www.teachchildrenesl.com/.
