Dear students,

Yours sincerely / Yours faithfully,

Which one is correct?

Hi!

Both are correct. But typically you use "yours sincerely" when the recipient of a letter is addressed by name.

Dear Mr Smith               END WITH             Yours sincerely,            (know name of person)

Dear Sir/Madam            END WITH             Yours faithfully,             (don t  know the name of the person)

Yeah. The above answer is correct! A little trick is to think "You can t be sincere to someone you don t know by name".

As Mary s link tells us, the difference is British. In the US, we use them interchangeably, although "Yours sincerely" is much more common here.
