Hi Pedro,
 
Let me try to give you a hand ;-)
 
1. first sentence seems ok.
2. Not sure about this: James hardly ever used to drive his car at night.
3. Dan managed to pull through even though he was seriously injured.
4. OK
5. OK
6. OK
7. both options ok, but in the second the word order is wrong "come up to"
8. OK
9. Not sure about this: Gary insisted that the vet should take a look at his dog immediately.
