Dear teachers,
 
Grammar books say that "many and much" can only be used in the negative sentences. But, I sometimes find them in affirmative sentences. For example, "I ate many sandwiches." Can you explain this. I �m confused.

I ate many sandwiches is commonly used by NNS but it is not natural. A NS would say that they ate a lot of sandwiches.
