Hi everyone,

I wonder if somebody can recommend me a good book that explains English phonetic symbols and how to use them properly to be able to write the phonetic transcription of words listening to them. It is what some students of mine who study at university are looking for.

Calvert �s Descriptive Phonetics: Introduction and Transcription Workbook

I think Roberto Merino has also published a good handbook

But you need something for your students to write down the symbols after listening... Mmmm... Some websites will give you online phonetic transcription but they won �t "read it out" for you...
