Hi merycona   Is it ever =  I fully agree, 150%. It is stronger than just a basic I agree .   The responder has realised that the soup is really hot  by trying it, and judging by the following statement, has probably burnt their tongue.   You can see a dictionary definition here   Cheers   Jayho         |

Other synonymous phrases would be "It sure is/They sure are", "Indeed!" or "It certainly is/They certainly are".  You demonstrate extremely strong agreement with the previous speaker s statement when you say "Is it ever!" or "Are they ever!" (singlular vs. plural form).   Example 1:    Person A:  Oh, my goodness!  It s so hot today!                       Person B:  Is it ever!   I can hardly stand it.     Example 2:    Person A:   Oh, my goodness!  I can t believe how delicious these cookies are.                      Person B:    Are they ever!  You are so right.   I can t stop eating them.     Hope this helps  :)  Zoe Morosini, USA   |
