Great Activity!!! :o)

Hi guys!
I just wanted to share this activity I used in my class today (all boys, 15-16 yo) and we had a blast!

It s great for reviewing grammar, they have to recognize correct sentences or correct grammatical errors in a list of sentnces and then auction their corrections (that s how I did it).
I wrote the sentences on the board and the winner had to correct it on the board as well.
If the person winning the auction lost the money (namely, their bid was wrong) I gave money away for the correct answer, etc.
Some students ended up selling their lunch or their teammembers to me to get some money back! ;o)

Just a suggestion!
there are also other very nice activities in the website.

Take care and have fun!

I often play this game as a warm up or revision. I usually play it as individuals rather then teams. I give each student 150 dollars in 50 dollar bills (Monopoly money) and they can make bids individually.
I make the rule that they cannot share money otherwise they help each other out.
They can only make 50 bids at a time. If they loose their money they re out of the game.
I notice that many of my students watch the wiser students and follow their bid so make sure you challenge them or whisper to them to make false bids to trick others.

I use the Grammar Casino Game and others like it off MES English.Smile
I write up some sentences with a few mistakes and the kids have to bid some money if they think the sentence is correct or not. If they can write the correct sentence, they get extra points which means more money.Smile
We then add up the points at the end and I hand out the fake money I printed off the MES site.

It s a great way to teach grammar and to test students and see if they ve remembered simple grammar rules.Smile

Grammar Casino was a hit with my students a couple of weeks ago.
I put them into teams and made sure i had at least one student per team who is good at English. The idea was for the good student to teach the weaker ones where the mistakes were so that when they come to the board to write down their bid on the board, they can give an explanation as well.
In order to make sure there is no cheating, the students were asked to first put the bid. After each team representative has written down the bid, they wrote G (good) or NG (no good) beside the numbers. In addition to that, i gave them two pieces of paper, G and NG, one of which had to be on their desks and the other in the hand of the representative as a PROOF to me that they didn t change their mind, or that they copied from someone while writing the bids. Thumbs Up

Thanks guys for the ideas. It sounds like a great game. It s great to hear it being tested and what can help to make the game go smoothly. Much appreciated.
Thanks
