Letter writing rules

Dear friends,
I have a little question- when we start writing a letter we should write like this:

the first line - Dear... ,
the second line - thank you for /or smt like this/

The question is if the first word of the second line should start with a CAPITAL letter?

Thank you!

Thank you!

So it must be like this:

Dear Ann,
Thank you for...

Right?!

Also, the second line should be indented.
Dear Ann,
Thank you for....

Yes, indeed it may be, but you may also use block format whereby no indentations are used, neither in the first address nor in the paragraphs.  I suggest you choose one format (it doesn t matter which) and teach that to your students, giving them no options.  It makes life easier!

Remember that you should always capitalize the first letter of the first word, whatever the grammatical category of that word and be it in a paragraph or in a single sentence. So since the "T" is the first letter of that paragraph/line, then you need to capitalize it for sure.

In addition to that, it would be better if you respect the left-hand margin when you write a letter. So the first line in each new paragraph should be indented. To examplify:

Dear Ann,
        Thank you for ..............................................................................................................
.........................................................................................................................................
............................................................. .

        Your plan for ...............................................................................................................
.........................................................................................................................................
............................................................. .

        As for the ....................................................................................................................
..........................................................................................................................................
............................................................. .

........ etc.

Have a good day
