Reading comprehension skill - help

I have a student with a basic knowledge of English who needs to  become skillful at reading comprehension.
He is at university and has to pass different levels of English, all of them based on this same skill. No production of English.
I have the model tests which he has to work on and they belong to an intermediate and upper-intermediate level. All the exercises must be done in his mother tongue.
Weird enough to me and hard to find the best way to help him.

I would appreciate any help on techniques and material we can use.

Hello Tere,

Your student might find this site useful (although there  are stories for kids it helps a lot in the self-study): http://www.ac-nancy-metz.fr/enseign/anglais/henry/litt.htm

The other sites for adults: http://eslus.com/LESSONS/READING/READ.HTM
http://www.marshalladulteducation.org/reading_skills_home.htm

I can recommend them as they helped one of my students with a similar problem to the student of yours.

Have a nice evening,
Alex
