Yes I have and I told them to stop sounding like a trash can.
Lots of kids speak "trash" because they don �t have English as
their first language - they see too many B films with swearing
and they are not aware that if they ever wanted to be an exchange
student in the USA or the UK, that people from nice middle class families
would find their language very offensive. I know I do.

Yes I have. They often swear in English because they hear those words and don �t know the meaning. I hear the f word. Like Damielle, I speak to the students and tell them to watch their language and that I don �t want to hear those words anymore.
We do have our lot of swear words in French (mostly about religious objects). Those I hear less often because kids understand they are bad words because as kids they have been forbidden by their parents.
Slice of life: A colleague of mine was once called "fat cow" by one of her students. She turned around and told that kid "Cow, I can handle, but fat, no way!" She defused the insult with humor and the kid did not know what to say anymore. It was the end of the argument. |
