Stylistic devices -- rhetoric figures -- (3 pages)
Introduction to 15 stylistic devices, from hyperbole to euphemism, from climax to anaphora. _____ Cut this worksheet up and get your students to match the three categories: definitions, examples and the name of the stylistic device. (The order is correct as it is). ____
Print out several copies and make students work in small groups.
It will probably take over 30 minutes for them to sort it all out. ____
For groups that finish very quickly I have added an extra exercise which is slightly different: there are several quotations of stylistic devices with three names of devices each. Students students have to decide whether the sentence in question is, for example, a metaphor, an alliteration or an anti-climax.
