Daily Routine Grid for Listening Speaking Writing
Language Skills: Listening, Speaking, Writing.
Language focus: First and third person singular of present simple, at…o’clock, quarter past/to, half past/to, xxxminutes past/to.
Extension: introduce use of ‘in the morning/afternoon/evening’, ‘both/all’ (similarities), e.g. Mark and Kim both get up at 7 o’clock, by/before/after (time), frequency words (always, usually)
Activities:
Listening and Speaking
Give out a copy of the Listening Grid to each student.
Depending on size of class, choose one of the following:
1) Whole class – one by one, students tell the class what time they do the activities. Each student notes down the speaker’s name in the first column and the time under each activity on their copy of the grid.
or
2) Do the activity in pairs, first, then with another partner, etc. (mini Jigsaw activity)
Or
3) In groups of four, as a Jigsaw activity.
Writing
Provide some model sentences for the students. Using the information from the grid, students write their own sentences using the models. For example,
Mark (always) gets up at 7 o’clock. He (usually) gets home by four thirty. He eats dinner at 7 o’clock in the evening.
