Costume Guessing Costume Guessing

Students learn to describe costumes and design their own costume First, the teacher reads a description of "her" Halloween costume, “I will wear a…” (you should change the wksht to have your name and a different costume. The answer for the provided example costume is "kappa," a Japanese mythical animal. If your students aren´t Japanese, they probably can´t guess it!) Ss write their guesses as to what the teacher’s costume is Teacher reveals her costume - a kappa (Japanese mythical creature) Next, students match written descriptions of costumes with a costume name Then,Ss choose a costume they want to wear and write it on their worksheets. Ss write 3 sentences to describe what they will wear to create their costumes Direct students attention to the vocabulary section of the worksheet, and help them use their dictionaries to find additional words **Ss should not share their answers with other Ss yet!** Finally, Students work in pairs which change every few minutes. Using the final section of the worksheet, Ss ask partners for descriptions of their costumes and write them. From the description, Ss guess their partner´s costumes. Ss form new pairs and repeat the activity. Possible homework: Ask students to draw their costumes and make a longer description of them.
