Clean energy vs Fossil fuels Clean energy vs Fossil fuels

Divide students into two groups. One group is "Pro-renewable energy", the other group supports the use of "Fossil Fuels". Give each group about 20-30 minutes to make notes from the website at the bottom of their roleplay cards and then the students must come back to make a five-minute presentation arguing their point. This activity can then be follwed-up with an open class discussion on Global Warming/Carbon Footprints.

and what are the activities?

Hi snds!         posted by stuartallen77
Thanks for your post.

The main point of the activity is to get the students interested in the issues surrounding global warming and the arguments around carbon emissions.

Students are looking at real websites, authentic material and learning topical vocab. They must use the information they learn and condense it into a five-minute oral presentation (with use of the whiteboard for diagrams if they want to).

The teacher can then listen and do error correction feedback at the end. The presentations can also lead to an open class discussion at the end, where students are practicing their English and new vocabulary in a stress-free, fun environment. Perhaps you can get them to write their own feelings on global warming and how they can help in their own way for homework? This is a challenging lesson for advanced level students, who have an interest in Earth issues.

Hope this helps,

Stuart
