3 Steps to Writing a Speech or Essay
In Japan, a lot of junior high and high school students are expected to write and give English speeches. But what I´ve found is that they lack an understanding of the writing process, and end up either having their teacher basically write it for them, or with a very messy, ineffective end result. These worksheets include the first 3 steps of the writing process (for a speech or essay): (1) Choose a Topic (2) Brainstorm (3) Write an Outline. The next step, of course, is to write a rough draft. I tell my students that they can go back and change their topic anytime, so that they don´t hesitate to go ahead and start writing out their ideas for a topic. Hope this is helpful! (And I wouldn´t mind some additional advice for improvements on this!)
