Nominalisation practice
This is a worksheet to practice nominalisation (I havent explained it, I made it as extra practice after I taught it in earlier sessions). Students must find noun/verb equivalents to fill in the table, and then use these in transforming sentences (nominalising and reversing nominalisation). An answer key is provided.

Thats hot!
Students think of different uses of "hot" (eg hot day, hot chillies, hot car). They must complete 10 idiomatic phrases with the words hot or cold, then match each idiom with its meaning. Finally, they use a selection of the idioms to write their own sentences to demonstrate understanding.

Phonics - consonant sounds 2
I have made a series of worksheets to review consonant sounds with my beginners. I have tried to use things that are encountered in everyday life. I ask students if they can name each picture; correct their pronunciation if necessary or supply with word if unknown, then have them listen to the word spoken slowly to identify which sounds are invol...

Starting a conversation about the weather
This is the first in a group of 3 worksheets I made to help students make small talk or start a conversation by talking about the weather. Hope you find it useful! (NB, there is one response with temperature in degrees Celsius, you will have to change it if you use Fahrenheit.)

First Aid Instructions
Students do a pre-viewing vocab matching activity, then watch first aid instruction videos from the British Red Cross and take notes. Then they practise giving and following instructions. Obviously you must take care in this last part of the activity; it is better if the teacher is first-aid trained. Please take careful note of the safety instruct...

Song - Home Among the Gumtrees
This is a well-known song in Australia. It includes vocabulary about the house. There are some vocabulary exercises before listening, and I would also have students discuss whether they prefer to live in the city, suburbs or country. Then they can listen to the song (link included in file) and fill in the gaps.

Clothing flashcards
I have made flashcards with 2 pictures to match each word because I intend for students to work in pairs initially to match, and then to roleplay shopping scenarios with a choice of item (eg would you like the blue or the red, striped/plain, short-sleeved/long-sleeved etc). The worksheet is editable if you want to alter the Australian English :-)
