Gerunds or Infinitives? (British)
Knowing whether to use a gerund or an infinitive is NOT easy. Here is a worksheet to help students choose. Ive added 3 EPS images to illustrate some of the vocabulary. I used the font Baskerville, which permits everything to appear on a single page. You may with to experiment with a different font. (The 40 examples are from British English.)

Getting a Word In
In this enjoyable exercise, each student is given a card with a secret phrase. Students then work in groups of 5-7, discussing every topic they wish, but during the 20-minute discussion they have to place their secret sentence as naturally as possible in a way so that no one else can identify their sentence. The trick is to speak about several diff...

Havent Met You Yet
This dual exercise focuses on phrasal verbs and listening in Michael Bubls popular song. Have the students do the matching exercise first, then hand out the gapped lyrics and have them try to find words that fit in the gaps. (Many of the missing words are from the matching exercise.) Finally play the song so they can check their choices and fill ...

Hear and Say Cards
Based on an idea I learned at a British Council seminar years ago, here are cards for practicing the alphabet, focusing especially on letters that are easily confused for speakers of Romance languages. Students work in groups of 4, 5, 6, or 7. (4 is best). There are sets of cards for each of these group sizes. The students listen, and when they ...

Hello Muddah, Hello Fadduh
This funny song by Allen Sherman about an unhappy boy writing a letter to his parents from summer camp is timeless. There are several types of exercises here, a vocabulary matching exercise, listening comprehension, discussion, etc. I used the Mistral font for the title, but this can be changed so that everything fits onto 2 pages.
