Panic!

Hello dear friends, this morning my second graders were drawing a picture when a little girl asked me the permission to throw away this

then she asked me: "Teacher, what do you call this in English?"
Panic!!!
"Pencil chips" I answered...but I can t remember what is the real name of
that thing! How do you call them?
Thank you/grazie!

I suppose , like many other terms, what they re called is dependent on where you re from.  I ve only ever heard pencil shavings.

I ve heard pencil shavings and pencil sharpenings and I recall hearing the word parings many years ago. I ve never heard of pencil scraps but I like it.

As a British person I ve never heard of pencil scraps, I would probably say pencil sharpenings, though pencil shavings sounds fine, too.
