| | the present continuous sailing boat
This material helps learners of the English language to understand how the present continuous is built. Jigsaw-elements of a sailing boat mirror the elements necessary to make complete and correct sentences to express that someone or something is doing something at the moment.
Many (in my case German) students have problems seeing that the present continuous is only completely and correctly used if the predicate contains a form of Be (matching the subject of the sentence) plus a VERB plus ING.
The jigsaw-elements help students understand the present continuous as they can actually MAKE their sentences. A variety of verbs is included (some regular, some ending on -e and some whose end-consonant is doubled when the -ing is added). Some jigsaw-elements are blank so that your students can add more when needed.
After some time your students will not need the sailing boat any more, which will strengthen their self-confidence.
I would be grateful if colleagues shared their ideas with me to optimize the material.
