Talking about your family - family album 1
The pupils pretend this is their family album and they introduce their "family" to a partner/a group or the class. They need some time to prepare what theyre going to say but they cant write : its a talking exercise (not a reading one).

School subjects
this activity sheet is made of 2 different ones (I dont usually use both but rather one or the other)
1st part: group work - the pupils remember the vocabulary (school subjects) and they talk about them (time table and likes/dislikes)
2nd part : pair work, they need to talk about school subjects with their neighbour and use different ways of say...

The group that finds...

What a mess !
My pupils always love this activity. Its a bit like a very simplified version of "wheres Wally / Waldo ?". A father is coming back home and the pupils must find the different objects in the picture that need to be tidied up before hes back...
I use a transparency and an individual copy for each student so that its easier for them to follow.

Winston Churchill biography
I use this biography as an exercise : the pupils need to use the past simple form of the verbs in brackets. So, they do a simple exercise but at the same time they read and write a text.

How long ago did it happen ?
i use this as a transparency. First, the pupils need to guess what the picture is about using the simple past, then they need to ask a question using "how long ago..." and guess an answer. I usually divide them into groups so they have a small competition to be the closest to the correct answer. Then, we check the answer.

mystery celebrity sheets
I divide the class into groups then I give out these sheets with biography elements. The groups ask questions to find out the other groups celebritites. they practise simple past questions because theyre all dead celebrities.
I generally put flashcards on the board with the celebrities pictures to help them.
